Finding Postpartum Support – You Are Not Alone

With my first pregnancy, I was one of those women who just loved being pregnant and may have actually been glowing. Then my water broke 5 weeks early. Rather, my water exploded as it doused the front seat of our car, leaking down to the toes of my boots while my husband and I drove home from our first parenting class. (more…)

Babies Welcome at the Barre

After I had my second baby, it took a while to get myself to do anything outside of the essentials, like take my older daughter to daycare and run to the grocery store. After all, it was winter, I was nursing, my new baby was fussy, and I was just trying to make it through the day as a new mom of two. But once my doctor cleared me for activity, I knew I wanted to try and get back in shape more quickly than I had with baby #1, so I tried a Barre class at Renew Mama. (more…)

What to Expect at a Renew Mama Prenatal Yoga Class

Do you remember sleepovers from middle school? Maybe you played MASH, watched scary movies, or choreographed dance routines. I distinctly remember the conversation always turning from boys and bras to periods. Who had theirs already and who, like me, were the late bloomers. We would listen attentively to each other and ask questions about what was normal. There is still something special about a group of girls or women coming together to share these uniquely female experiences. We can talk to our spouses about it, but only other women can understand how it really feels. (more…)

My Journey Towards Mindful Parenting

By Cheryl Blackington from Grand Rapids Center for Mindfulness

Register here for the workshop

Cheryl Blackington will be leading the Mindful Parenting Workshop November 4th at Renew Mama 12-5 PM.ReImagine bringing mindfulness into your parenting journey. Imagine finding a source of peace and acceptance with yourself and your kids, even at the worst of times.  Imagine being able to take a breath and pause before you react in an unhelpful way. Imagine developing a self care ritual so you don’t feel so overwhelmed and so stressed.  Parents have a huge impact on their children. Our kids watch us and model our actions, words, and emotions based on how we conduct ourselves.  It is not so much what you say, as what you do.

Meet Our April Member of the Month!

Hi, I’m Brandy! I am married to my college sweetheart, and together we are raising four beautiful and busy daughters 🙂

What I love most about Renew Mama is that it allows me to involve my entire family in yoga. My kids can participate in classes with me, my husband can come to special events with us, and I can go to classes alone for self care as well.

I have taken just about every class that Renew has offered!! Currently, I like to go to Candlelight yoga on Monday (after the kids go to bed!!), Power Yoga on Wednesday evening, and Yoga Flow on Saturday morning.  I also like to drop in to Movers & Crawlers and Little Kids Yoga when the day allows for it 🙂 (more…)

Safe Babymoon Destinations

Babymoon • a relaxing or romantic vacation taken by parents-to-be before their baby is born. A babymoon is a real thing and if you’re pregnant you should definitely go on one before baby comes! Disconnect from the stresses of everyday life, spend precious quality time with your partner and treat yourself! You will NEVER get this quality time back!

Wondering when to go? The second trimester is the best and most comfortable time to travel. (According to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the safest time to travel is from 18 to 24 weeks.) Morning sickness is usually over, you tend to have a boost in energy, and your bump isn’t too big yet! Always check with your doctor prior to your trip just to be sure you’re safe to travel. (more…)

4 Tips on Surviving Early Motherhood

Everyone always tells you what motherhood will be like, but you don’t truly know until you become one! It is the hardest, yet most rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my life. When you’re pregnant you wait in anticipation for approximately 40 weeks for your baby and to prepare you go to classes, decorate the nursery, read books, etc. However, I don’t think any of those things will ever really prepare you for motherhood, until you actually experience it.
